Project gains People’s Choice award for work in reimagining London.

Community-led project East London Waterworks Park (ELWP) has won an award in competition to Reimagine London.

The competition sought innovative, community-focused visions to tackle London’s challenges, including accessibility and sustainability.

ELWP, a community-led proposal to acquire a 14-acre concrete slab in Waltham Forest and transform it into a vibrant and biodiverse community park, won the People’s Choice award after receiving over 4,000 votes from members of the public.

CPRE London has supported the project with guidance on planning and creating a community campaign.

Reimagine London is a competition to help shape the future of the city, hosted by the NLA, London’s built environment community, and judged by an international jury. The competition received over 100 entries.

Abigail Woodman, Chair of ELWP, said:

“The vision for East London Waterworks Park has captured the hope of many people in East London and beyond. We want to work together to turn our dream into an actual park for all the community.”

CPRE London campaigns manager Alice Roberts congratulated the group on their award.

“It’s great to see this inspiring project getting the recognition it deserves.”

The competition winners were announced at an award ceremony held at the London Centre on 17 September.

East London Waterworks Park hopes to introduce wild swimming, a forest school space, studios for artists and scientists to experiment and collaborate, and a mosaic of dry and wetland habitats for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy.
