Cyclists call for safer London routes
Around 1,000 women and supporters took part in a ride through central London on Sunday (5 March) to call for safer conditions for cyclists in the capital.
Launching out from Hyde Park, the cyclists battled the cold to sweep round Pall Mall, St James and Buckingham Palace, carrying flags and sashes, many in suffragette purple and white.
Organised by the London Cycling Campaign (LCC), the ride drew attention to the make-up of cyclists in London, where men outnumber women by three to one. Campaigners asked the Mayor to support women cyclists through improvements to safety and the creation of better local networks.
CPRE London encourages greater use of green routes by walkers and cyclists to reduce pollution and improve wellbeing.
