North
East London
The North-East London District
Group covers the boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Newham,
Havering, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. This is
a large and very varied area that encompasses redeveloped
industrial sites - including Canary Wharf - alongside areas of
multiple deprivation in London’s East End. It includes some
of the host boroughs of the 2012 Olympics, where much is
expected of the anticipated legacy of the Games, and areas of
significant regeneration and housing development within the
Thames Gateway. Yet there are also significant areas of
countryside, protected as Metropolitan Green Belt within the
outer boroughs, and important wildlife sites, such as Rainham
Marshes, and the Thames, itself.
The District Group accordingly
deals with a wide range of issues and supports local
communities in tackling inappropriate or poorly planned
proposals.
Fairlop Plain

Fairlop Waters Country Park (formerly Fairlop Plain) has received a massive £400.000 grant for improvement with state of the art facilities including sailing and climbing, improved walking and cycling paths and wildlife protection. This is thanks to Mayor Boris Johnson’s Priority Parks Fund but also to the local
environmental organisations including CPRE N.E. London who campaigned vigorously to stop the plain being developed into an
all-weather horse racing circuit with a hotel and other ancillary
buildings.>back

Advertisements on the M25
The M25 between its junctions with the M11 and A12 is disfigured with a large number of unauthorised and deteriorating “mobile” advertisement. Photos of these
hoardings have been sent to Havering Council’s Planning Enforcements Officer but, as yet, no action has been taken. Please e-mail Ken Bray at
kenbray@ntlworld.com if you see any of these unsightly advertisements being removed.

Havering-atte-Bower

CPRE London was delighted to welcome Havering-atte-bower village conservation society
(HABCoS) as an affiliated group in 2008. We have maintained regular contact and have been able to advise on various planning and environmental matters. An initial five year plan for village improvements, linked to its important local and national village history, has already achieved some tangible environmental and social successes. The lapsed Horseman's Sunday and children's Easter egg-hunt have been revived and improvements to the ancient village green area including a traditional village sign are well in hand. All these activities have
encouraged public participation and are adding to the village sense of identity and well-being; exactly the virtuous circle that CPRE promotes for society in general.
The CPRE
N.E. London district group is proud to be associated with this village-led initiative.

Epping Forest Festival
CPRE N.E. London (in co-operation with CPREssex) attended the Epping Forest Festival

CPRE occurred on Chingford Plain on 6th September. Any offers to assist with manning the stand
in future years will be gratefully accepted. Ring Ken Bray on 020 8504 9318.
